(As a counter example creative types learned to not do a Mac OS X major upgrade for 6 months to a year after Apple released it: Adobe Creative Suite apps would break. There is a thin layer that deals with the OS. This makes later maintenance much easier - the main codebase is OS independent. So, I can use some tool to import, sort, move, rename, etc. However, this 'solution' takes away some of the advantages of non-destructive editing and will increase the size of all of my photos by five or 6 fold. Linux is different enough that it forces developers to separate their software from the operating system. I could export all of my edited files as TIFFs and not really use the Darktable catalogue. The tools are world class, and largely free. I finally got the hang of the history stack, but I find myself wanting to click (or double-click, or right-click) on a specific item in the history stack and have that click to activate the module that I clicked on.
